Take flowers to Aunt Bee's gravesite (from the Andy Griffith show). Explore the fascinating history of downtown Siler City and its dynamic shops and courses at the North Carolina Arts Incubator. Taste a variety of wines as you enjoy vineyard views at Siler City's first winery, Horizon Cellars.

Area Overview

Chatham County is an integral part of the Durham metropolitan statistical area (MSA), the name of a 430,000-person MSA that includes Durham, Chatham, Orange, and Person counties. Raleigh-Cary, NC, is the neighboring MSA that includes Wake, Franklin, and Johnston counties. Our county includes Pittsboro, Siler City, Goldston, Moncure, Bear Creek, Wilsonville, Bonlee, Bennett, Gulf, Silk Hope, Bynum, and some parts of Chapel Hill, Apex, and Cary.

We are located in the heart of North Carolina, between the Triangle and the Piedmont Triad. Some of our neighbors include: NC Zoo, Seagrove Potteries, New Hope Valley Railway, the Streets at Southpoint, Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro. Enjoy our incredible landscape and the diversity in Pittsboro, Siler City, and our other towns and communities' activities, shops, and restaurants, which is appealing to many interests and ages.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area; Jordan Lake Educational State Forest; and the Deep, Haw, and Rocky Rivers make Chatham an outdoor adventure land and great place to canoe, kayak, sail, picnic, hike, and bike.

Fearrington Village is a fun outing, with its distinctive shops, breathtaking gardens, award-winning restaurants, and everyone's favorite, "Oreo cows." Three Chapel Hill/Chatham County golf courses are perfect for golfers--championship courses, designers--Jack Nicklaus and Davis Love III, magnificent vistas, and challenging rounds.

The variety doesn't stop there, however. Bed and breakfasts are plenty and they make the perfect getaway for couples and even families (the goat farm is perfect for kids). Adventure seekers and outdoor lovers enjoy the opportunity to canoe, kayak, swim, fish, picnic, and more.

A walk along the historic traffic circle is always fun, complete with a visit to the Antique Walk and nifty eateries in historic downtown Pittsboro. Pittsboro, Siler City, and Goldston each have historic districts as recognized by the National Historic Register.

Year-round tours, festivals, and happenings include wine tastings, garden parties, holiday fun, heritage celebrations, children's activities, incredible exhibits, and Southern cuisine.

Tour small farms, nurseries, farmers' markets--a great way to get the freshest ingredients for dinner; plus, take home jams, flowers, breads, and more. Several companies bring their employees to Chatham for its rural and natural landscape as well as for its the unique meeting sites.

The American Tobacco Trail is a 30-mile rails-to-trails project located in the Triangle Region of North Carolina. The route crosses through the City of Durham; Durham, Chatham, and Wake counties; the planning jurisdictions of the Towns of Cary and Apex; and passes through the Lake Jordan project land of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
